November Food Holidays You Don't Want to Miss
Everyone loves a good food holiday! It gives you an excellent excuse to eat the foods you love. November is full of fabulous food holidays, from National Deviled Egg Day on November 2 to National Lemon Creme Pie Day on November 29! Here are three more food holidays in November you definitely don’t want to miss!
National Sandwich Day
November 3rd is National Sandwich Day. We think this day deserves extra attention because, really, where would we be without the sandwich? Whether you go for crusty sourdough hoagies, egg salad on rye, or plain ol’ PB&J, sandwiches are an integral part of American culture. The invention of the sandwich is often attributed to the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who was such a prolific gambler that he couldn’t be bothered to stop for meals. Sliding his meat between two slices of bread kept his hands clean and his gambling addiction well-fueled. However, while this famous food’s moniker may have come from everyone’s favorite earl, he certainly didn’t invent it. Some form of the sandwich has been around for thousands of years. However, the United States has certainly fanned the fire of its fame with its hoagies, Philly cheesesteaks, and pulled BBQ sandwiches. Celebrate this national treasure by heading to your favorite sandwich vendor on November 3rd!
National Donut Day
The perfect excuse to eat a donut happens on November 5, National Donut Day. Apparently, donuts first made their blissful appearance in the United States in the early 18th century. The Dutch may have called them olycoeks, but they were essentially the same fried deliciousness that they are today. You can always get your traditional donuts at your local donut shop, but if you are lucky enough to have a donut food truck in your vicinity, go there to experience donuts like you’ve never tried before!
National Pickle Day
National Pickle Day on November 14 gets an honorable mention because it’s just too funny to pass up. Of course, everyone who isn’t crazy loves a good pickle, but who would have thought they would get their own holiday? Why not celebrate by trying pickles in a crazy, creative way? We like the idea of freezing pickle brine to make delicious, salty, pickle popsicles!
Life is too short to skip fun food holidays! Every day deserves some kind of celebration. Make the most of these and other November food holidays by going ham (National Glazed Spiral Ham Day isn’t until April 15th, sorry!) on them! The only celebrations you will ever regret are the ones you passed up on.
